Robin has fared better on the small screen, in a family friendly, Saturday-evening kind of way, via the late-00s BBC version and the mid-1980s Robin of Sherwood on ITV, which introduced into the lore some pagan mysticism and an Arab Muslim character, Nasir (played by the white English actor Mark Ryan, but it is the sentiment that counts). And DisneyвЂ™s 1973 version remains one of the studioвЂ™s least cherished animated movies. Richard LesterвЂ™s 1976 Robin and Marian, with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn, at least took the story to a different, albeit less dynamic, place вЂ“ they could have called it Middle Aged in the Middle Ages. Patrick BerginвЂ™s and Uma ThurmanвЂ™s cheaper, muddier version suffered for being released the same year.

The most entertaining thing about the movie now is Alan RickmanвЂ™s scenery-chewing departures from the cheesy script, but it became the second-highest-grossing movie of 1991. Alan Hackney's script and Terence Fisher's direction keep the incidents jouncing.a nicely tinted Sherwood Forest is as pretty as could be, and Sarah Branch is certainly the curviest Lady Marian we've ever seen. The New York Times wrote, 'It's business as usual, but hold on.

Apart from Greene, none of the original cast from The Adventures of Robin Hood appear in the film.
